Malacañang: Marcos Jr. Not Open To Any Dialogue regarding Sara Duterte’s Impeachment Trial

Press Officer of Malacañang Speaks on Duterte’s Impeachment Trial Anew

MALACAÑANG – The Palace stressed that President Bongbong Marcos is not open to any dialogue over the impeachment trial against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

The Senate impeachment court has decided to remand the Articles of Impeachment against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives. It gathered different reactions not only from ordinary citizens but as well as senators, former lawmakers, and even a framer of the 1987 Constitution.

According to Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, the return of Duterte’s impeachment to the House does not equate to the dismissal of the impeachment case against the Vice President. He claimed that it is an opportunity for the House prosecution panel to answer questions prior to the impeachment court deciding on the matter.

However, to some people, the remand of the Articles of Impeachment is allegedly another delaying tactic. Previously, on “no trial scenario” speculations, Malacañang clarified that Pres. Bongbong Marcos wants Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment process to push through although he would not intervene on the trial. The statement came amid the rumors that the rescheduling of the presentation of the Articles of Impeachment was allegedly under a presidential order.

Recently, Malacañang spoke anew on the impeachment trial against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on PhilStar, Palace press officer Atty. Claire Castro stressed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is not open for any dialogue regarding the impeachment proceedings.

“Hindi po open ang Pangulo sa anumang dayalogo patungkol sa impeachment trial or proceedings,” Castro said.

The Malacañang press officer further stressed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is only open to dialogues with the lawmakers if the situation about the issues on bills and laws is no longer good. Based on the report, Castro hopes that the statement will reach Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero.

“Maliwanag ko pong sinabi na maaari lang po siyang makipagdayalogo kung hindi na maganda ang sitwasyon patungkol sa mga issue sa bills, sa batas,” the Malacañang official said.

Previously, House Speaker Martin Romualdez stressed that the House did not act on Duterte’s impeachment trial “out of haste”. According to him, the return of the Articles of Impeachment to the House by the Senate is “deeply concerning”.

With the Senate acting as an impeachment court, 18 senator judges supported the motion to remand Duterte’s impeachment while only five (5) senator judges opposed to it. All the senator judges have cast their votes.
