House Defends Martin Romualdez from Imee Marcos Tirades: “Ang inuuna niya ay serbisyo, hindi sariling interes”

Spox of House of Representatives Reacts To Sen. Imee Marcos’ Remarks vs. Speaker Martin Romualdez

HOUSE – The mouthpiece of the lower chamber, Princess Abante, defended Speaker Martin Romualdez from the tirades of presidential sister and Senator Imee Marcos.

The recent remarks of Sen. Imee Marcos against Speaker Martin Romualdez and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos when she was in Malaysia were not her first tirades against her brother’s wife and their cousin. Prior to the 2025 Elections, Sen. Marcos also claimed in a campaign ad that the government is allegedly ran by a Romualdez and an Araneta.

Amid the controversial arrest and the transfer of custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Sen. Imee Marcos sided with the Duterte family. She even launched a Senate investigation on the arrest of the former President and asked the Ombudsman to probe five (5) of the key officials in the Marcos administration.

Sen. Imee Marcos also left the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago senatorial slate which was endorsed by her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos. According to the Presidential Sister, the actions of the government in the arrest of Duterte did not match her ideals and principles in life.

The presidential sister was endorsed by Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. She was one of the senators who were elected as she ranked 12th in the results of the 2025 Senatorial Elections. After the elections, she went to The Hague with the Vice President.

Sen. Imee Marcos also recently went to Malaysia where she seemingly launched tirades again against House Speaker Martin Romualdez and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. According to her, they are the “Lulong and Lalay”, names of crocodiles. She also claimed that millions of government funds were allegedly used as cash assistance to buy votes.

Martin Romualdez

Recently, the House of Representatives defended Speaker Martin Romualdez following the tirades of Sen. Imee Marcos. Based on a report on PhilStar, the spokesperson of the lower chamber, Princess Abante, stressed that the Speaker never showed anything that indicates an intent to run for president in the 2028 Elections.

“Malinaw po: wala sa kilos, pananalita, o gawain ni Speaker Romualdez ang pagtakbo sa 2028. Hindi siya nagpapakita sa media para magpasikat. Wala siyang presscon para magpabango. Hindi siya gumagamit ng TikTok o vlogs para magpa-cute. Ang inuuna niya ay serbisyo, hindi sariling interes,” Abante said.

Based on the report, the House Spox also stressed that House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the congressman of the First District of Leyte, is known in making tough decisions. According to her, if the election is on his mind, he would allegedly not move so as not to offend other people.

House spox Princess Abante further said that while others are busy traveling abroad to appear in media and for an “early campaigning”, Speaker Romualdez continues to do his job which is to serve the law, to guard the public funds, and to bring help to those who are in need.

In Malaysia, Sen. Robin Padilla claimed that he will be the campaign manager of Sen. Imee Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in 2028.
