Family of Five Lost in Air India Plane Crash
AIR INDIA TRAGEDY — A family of five who wanted to start a new life in London was among those who died in the plane crash.
Dr. Pratik Joshi had spent the past six years living and working in London, striving to build a better future for his family. His dream was to bring his wife, Dr. Komi Vyas, who is also a doctor, and their three young children to join him in London for a new life together. After years of preparation, paperwork, and sacrifices, that dream was finally about to come true.
Just two days before their departure, Dr. Komi Vyas resigned from her job in India. The family packed their bags, bid farewell to loved ones, and eagerly looked forward to their new life overseas. On the morning of their flight, full of hope and excitement, they boarded Air India flight 171 bound for London. Before takeoff, they captured a joyful family selfie and sent it to relatives — a final photo that would soon become painfully significant.

Tragically, the family never reached their destination. The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad, India, on June 12, 2025. In just seconds, a future filled with hope and plans was lost. All five members of the Joshi family, along with 236 others, perished in the crash. Only one person, British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, survived the tragedy.
According to Ramesh, who is currently receiving medical treatment, the crash happened just 30 seconds after takeoff. He recalled hearing a loud noise before everything unfolded rapidly. His survival has been described as nothing short of a miracle, as he managed to escape near the emergency exit.

Authorities confirmed that the plane was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. The aircraft crashed into a residential area, leaving behind widespread destruction, wreckage, and heartbreak.
