Former Porter from Bicol Builds Dream Home Thanks to His Dark Underarms

A former porter from Bicol was able to build his dream home and turn his life around because of his dark underarms.

Aldrick Cuevas, from Naga City in Camarines Sur, used to carry heavy loads for a living. Life was difficult after his father passed away in 2012. As the third of seven siblings, he had to grow up quickly.

Cuevas stopped studying in Grade 5 to support his family and worked in sugarcane fields to help his mother. Their old home was a small hut that leaked during rain. At times, they had nothing but salt for meals and slept on cardboard on the floor.

Due to extreme poverty, three of his siblings were sent away for adoption. Determined to help his family, Aldrick left Bicol to work in places like Batangas and Bulacan. He tried different jobs, from raising pigs to construction, eventually becoming a porter.

The nature of his work left him constantly sweaty and exposed to the sun leading to dark underarms.

Trying to find extra income, Aldrick began vlogging and exploring TikTok. He later became a TikTok affiliate, promoting products in exchange for a commission. One day, he tried endorsing a whitening deodorant that he used on his own underarms. Viewers noticed the difference and sales took off.

Since kargador ako pawisin ako tapos maitim yung kilikili, ginamit ko ‘yung deodorant. Natatawa ako kapag nagpo-promote ako,” Aldrick said.

From earning just P7,000 to P10,000 in commission, Aldrick’s income shot up to six digits. He has since built a new home, bought motorcycles, purchased land, and even built a basketball court for his community.

He now supports his siblings’ education, and one has already graduated. Aldrick dreams of one day celebrating his birthday with his entire family complete.
