Sen. Bato dela Rosa Confident Vice Pres. Sara Duterte To Be Acquitted in Impeachment Trial
BATO DELA ROSA – The reelected Senator is confident that Vice President Sara Duterte will be acquitted in her impeachment trial but refused to name the senators on their side.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero recently claimed that they are having a higher level of preparation for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Previously, the Senate chief proposed the trial to begin in July 30.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives last February 5 after more than 2/3 of the lawmakers signed the impeachment rap against her. Amid the claim of the Duterte camp that the Marcos administration allegedly want the Vice President removed from office, Malacañang claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos will not interfere in Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.

Five (5) senators endorsed by the Vice President won in the 2025 Senatorial Elections. Senate Pres. Escudero downplayed the speculations on this matter saying that the history holds that there were instances when the people endorsed turned their backs and there were also situations of enemies turning as friends.
Recently, reelected Sen. Bato dela Rosa spoke on the incoming impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on PhilStar, the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief who is an ally of the Duterte family expressed his confidence that the Vice President will be acquitted.

Based on the report, speaking to “On Point” program, Sen. Bato dela Rosa claimed that over nine (9) senators are already on their side. According to him, there are allegedly senators who are not their allies but are supporting their side.
“I am confident of an acquittal because we are seeing our non-allies changing their stand. The numbers are growing as far as our side is concerned,” the Senator said.
However, based on the report, Sen. Bato dela Rosa refused to name the senators who are planning to acquit Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in the impeachment trial. According to him, he does not want the lawmakers to change their stand.
“I don’t want to name them and then make them change their stance depending on the course of the impeachment trial,” he expressed.
Following the statement of the President that he is open to reconcile with the Duterte family, Sen. Bato dela Rosa challenged Pres. Bongbong Marcos to deport the “ICC investigators” to prove his sincerity over the “reconciliation” remarks. He has repeatedly claimed that he is the number two person in the list of the International Criminal Court over the Duterte drug war.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands. He is faced with an accusation of crimes against humanity before the ICC. Following the arrest of Duterte last March 11, Sen. Imee Marcos left her brother’s senatorial slate. Recently, Sen. Imee Marcos said she will join the “Duterte bloc” in the Senate.
