JJ Stuns Europe W/ Opera-Techno Fusion at Eurovision 2025
EUROVISION 2025 – Filipino-Austrian singer JJ captivated Europe with his opera-techno fusion track “Wasted Love,” winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.
Filipino-Austrian artist JJ has made history by winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with his unique opera-techno track, Wasted Love. The grand finale, held in Basel, Switzerland, ended in an emotional celebration as JJ brought home Austria’s first Eurovision crown since Conchita Wurst’s iconic victory in 2014.
JJ, whose real name is Johannes Pietsch, captivated the audience and juries with his countertenor vocals, delivering a stunning performance that combined classical opera with pulsating techno beats. Wasted Love explores the pain of unrequited love, beginning as a lyrical ballad before transforming into a powerful techno crescendo. The performance was visually distinct as well—broadcast in black and white with a vintage 4:3 aspect ratio that stood out on the Eurovision stage.
The 24-year-old singer earned 436 points after a tense night of voting, beating Israel with 357 points and Estonia with 356. “Thank you to you, Europe, for making my dreams come true,” JJ said, tearfully addressing the crowd. “Love is the strongest force in the world. Let’s spread more love.”
His triumph not only brought pride to Austria but also resonated deeply with the Filipino community around the world. The Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt celebrated JJ’s win, posting on Facebook, “What an incredible moment — Filipino pride on the European stage!”
Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker also extended his congratulations, calling JJ’s win a moment of musical history for the country.
JJ’s groundbreaking performance and genre-defying song have redefined what is possible on the Eurovision stage. His success is being hailed as a victory for diversity, creativity, and the unifying power of music.
