Over 50 Voters Stung by Bees on Election Day

Bees Disrupt 2025 Elections in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY – More than 50 voters were stung by bees at a polling center in Barangay Tangub during the 2025 elections. The incident happened at Rodolfo A. Medel Sr. Elementary School, where people were lining up to vote when a beehive fell from a tree nearby.

The sudden bee attack caused panic, prompting voters to rush into a classroom for safety. This delayed the voting process on Monday. Several youth volunteers quickly responded and assisted those who were stung.

Local authorities later ensured that the beehive was safely removed to prevent further incidents and to prepare the school for the return of students after the election. Despite the unexpected event, the situation was handled quickly and order was restored.

Meanwhile, in a separate report, a teacher who served as Electoral Board support staff during the 2025 elections expressed her disappointment after voters left a classroom littered with trash. The incident occurred at Poloyogan Integrated School in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

In a Facebook post, Raqueza Mortiz Jemino shared photos and videos of the classroom filled with litter, including food wrappers, plastic cups, and flyers scattered across the floor and desks—even though trash bins were available inside and outside the room. She expressed frustration, saying in the local dialect, “Kadaghan sa basurahan sulod sa room pero, murag walay nakaila.”

After a long day of helping voters, Jemino had to clean up the mess on her own. What upset her most wasn’t just the physical mess but the lack of discipline and respect shown in a space meant for learning. For her, a classroom is more than just a polling place—it is a space for growth and deserves to be respected. She emphasized that real change goes beyond voting. “The incident shows that bringing change doesn’t stop at the ballot. It also includes small actions, like cleaning up after ourselves,” she said.
