Sen. Cynthia Villar Fails in Bid for Congressional Comeback in Las Piñas District

CYNTHIA VILLAR — The outgoing Senator lost in the congressional race in the district of Las Piñas to incumbent city councilor Mark Anthony Santos.

Several members of the popular Villar family are in politics. This May 2025 Elections, Sen. Villar attempted to switch positions with her daughter, Las Piñas district Representative Camille Villar. The senatorial candidacy of Camille Villar was endorsed by both President Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

Las Piñas district Rep. Camille Villar is under the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago of the Marcos administration. If she wins senator, she will join her brother, Sen. Mark Villar in the Senate. The Villar matriarch was on a pursuit to return as Las Piñas district representative, a post she held for several years before she became a senator.

However, Sen. Cynthia Villar failed in her bid for a congressional comeback in the district of Las Piñas. Based on a report on PhilStar, the city’s board of canvassers proclaimed incumbent city councilor Mark Anthony Santos as the winner in the congressional race.

Villar got 83,975 votes while Santos won with 115,757 votes. The two (2) other candidates for the Las Piñas district congressional race were Cong Louie Redoble of Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP) and independent candidate Barry Tayam.

Previously, Sen. Cynthia Villar earned the irk of several netizens after she said there might be no land distribution in Las Piñas without the support to their family in the elections. The outgoing Senator downplayed being interested to be a House Speaker. According to her, she does not have much ambition in life now.

Sen. Villar voted at the Las Piñas City National Science High School. She was with her husband, business giant and former Senate Pres. Manny Villar. At a chance interview yesterday, the Senator said that it depends on the people of Las Piñas if they will vote for her but she expected that they will claiming she has done so much for them.

Sen. Cynthia Villar also admitted their family expects Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar to win as senator as they gave their best.
