Shaun Pelayo Apologizes After Facing Backlash for Comments on Anne Curtis and Siquijor

Vlogger Shaun Pelayo Says Sorry Over Siquijor Issue

SHAUN PELAYO – The vlogger issued an apology after facing backlash for comments he and his wife, Crissa Liaging (known as “Habibi”), made about Anne Curtis during a Facebook Live session.

In a video posted on April 21, 2025, Shaun took full responsibility for his remarks, acknowledging that his words may have upset some people. “I haven’t addressed any controversy online yet, pero it’s getting out of hand so I take full responsibility and accountanbility for the comment that I made on a Facebook Live. And if it has offended anyone that I do, I apologize. I’m sorry and that was never my intention to bring any negativity, so apologize,” Shaun said.

He expressed regret over the situation and clarified that he never meant to spread negativity. He also condemned the death threats he and Habibi received, calling them unacceptable and urging everyone to focus on positivity instead.

The controversy began after Anne Curtis shared photos and videos from her trip to Siquijor on Instagram, which went viral on March 21, 2025. Her posts, highlighting the island’s scenic views, caught the attention of fans, many of whom praised Siquijor’s natural beauty. However, during a Facebook Live on April 18, Shaun and Habibi expressed their frustration about not being acknowledged by the local government of Siquijor, despite their years of promoting the island. Shaun, who has lived in Siquijor for several years, said he felt unappreciated for their efforts. Habibi agreed and added that, if she were part of the local government, she would have shown gratitude for their promotional work.

Their comments sparked a debate. Many, especially residents of Siquijor, criticized the couple for sounding “entitled.” Some pointed out that Siquijor’s beauty was already well-known before their vlogs and credited Anne Curtis for helping boost tourism. Others defended Shaun and Habibi, recognizing their consistent efforts to promote the island and encouraging others to show understanding. While Shaun has since apologized, Anne Curtis has not yet responded to the issue.
