Change in the Behavior of the Principal Shocks Those Close to Her
VENUS DIVINIA NIETES – People close to the principal of Col. Ruperto Abellon National School (CRANS) in Antique were shocked by her change.
Principal Nietes has drawn public attention following an incident during the school’s moving-up ceremony on April 15, 2025. Once known as a kind and approachable educator, Nietes surprised many when she instructed graduating students to remove their togas, stating that they were not part of the official dress code. The situation escalated when she argued on stage with another teacher and was booed by a frustrated student.
Those who knew her personally were deeply surprised by the change in her behavior. Teacher Irene Belarmino, a close friend of Nietes, expressed her disbelief, recalling the principal as once warm and loving. She questioned why Nietes allowed the demands of her role to affect her actions, emphasizing that being an educator is not only about following rules but also about showing care, compassion, and respect.
Former student Herald Bebis also shared his thoughts in a heartfelt message. He said it was difficult to reconcile the person in the viral video with the Ma’am Venus he once knew—an understanding and kind mentor who made students feel safe, supported, and valued. He remembered her not just as a capable teacher but as someone who inspired students to believe in themselves and who never made them feel small despite her authority.
Bebis reflected that perhaps the pressure of leadership and strict policies may have weighed heavily on her. Still, he hoped that the teacher they once admired was still there, hidden beneath the burden of responsibility. He encouraged Nietes to use the Lenten season as a time for reflection—not just on the incident, but on who she is and who she truly hopes to be. He reminded her that her earlier years of compassionate guidance and inspiration are still remembered and cherished by her former students.
As of this writing, Principal Nietes has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
