Atty. Ian Sia Asked to Explain Remarks About His Female Assistant’s Appearance

Atty. Ian Sia Faces Another Show-Cause Order Over Discriminatory Remarks

ATTY. IAN SIA – The Pasig congressional candidate has been asked once again by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to explain his remarks—this time regarding the physical appearance of his female assistant during a campaign event.

In a new show-cause order, the Comelec cited Sia’s statement during a campaign activity on April 3, 2025. During his speech, he commented on his assistant, named Jaja, saying she had gained weight after marrying someone named Eweng. He also asked her to show herself to the audience, joked about her body over the past 15 years, and compared her appearance to justify that she was not the type of person who would be harassed, adding that his current staff member is a 59-year-old woman. He ended the statement by saying, “When it comes to women, it’s clear—they should be respected and loved.”

Because of this comment, the Comelec issued another show-cause order, giving Sia three days to explain why he should not be held liable for inappropriate or discriminatory remarks made during a public political event.

This is not the first time Sia has been called out. The Comelec previously issued a separate show-cause order against him due to an offensive joke about single mothers. That earlier incident also drew criticism from several sectors who viewed it as insensitive and disrespectful.

This even prompted Shamcey Supsup to announce she was leaving Team “Kaya This” after Atty. Ian Sia made a controversial joke about single mothers. In her statement, the Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner-Up and Pasig councilor candidate stressed her commitment to values like respect, responsibility, and empowering women. She made this decision after carefully considering the impact of Sia’s joke, which many people felt disrespected single parents.

As of this writing, Atty. Ian Sia has not released any official statement addressing the latest Comelec directive.
