Kiko Pangilinan Denies Joining PBBM’s Senatorial Slate

Kiko Pangilinan Refutes Claims of Joining Marcos’ Political Alliance

KIKO PANGILINAN – The former senator has denied reports that he would be joining President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s “Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas” for the 2025 midterm elections. Speculation about his inclusion arose after reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos withdrew from the alliance.

In a statement on Thursday, March 27, Pangilinan clarified that no discussions had taken place between his camp and the Alyansa. He emphasized that his campaign remains independent and focused on addressing high food prices and ensuring food security for Filipino families.

“There have been no discussions between my camp and Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas. Our campaign remains independent and focused on our core advocacy—fighting high food prices and ensuring food security for every Filipino family,” Pangilinan stated.

He also stressed that his campaign is not about political affiliations but about ensuring affordable food for everyone. “Sa atin, ang laban ay laban para sa pagkain sa murang presyo. Hindi ito usapin ng partido o kulay,” he added.

Despite this, Pangilinan expressed his willingness to work with different political groups if it would benefit the country. “Handa tayo makipagtulungan sa lahat ng mga partido, Alyansa man o PDP o iba pang mga grupo sa ngalan ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino na hindi na makabili ng sapat na pagkain dahil sa taas ng presyo,” he said.

Rumors circulated that Pangilinan and fellow senatorial candidate Bam Aquino had discussions with Alyansa following Imee Marcos’ departure. However, Alyansa campaign manager and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco denied these claims, stating that there had been no talks about including Pangilinan and Aquino in the alliance.

Meanwhile, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan is a politician, lawyer, and advocate for farmers. He has served multiple terms as a senator in the Philippines, focusing on agriculture, food security, and farmers’ rights. Pangilinan was also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food and has actively pushed for laws benefiting farmers and fisherfolk.

He was the Liberal Party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2022 elections, running alongside Leni Robredo, but he lost to Sara Duterte. Outside of politics, Pangilinan is also known as the husband of actress and singer Sharon Cuneta.
