Woman Charged with Drowning Dog After Being Denied Flight
FLORIDA – A woman named Alison Lawrence, 57, was arrested for allegedly drowning her dog in an airport restroom after being denied boarding. The incident took place on December 16, 2023, at Orlando International Airport, but authorities took Lawrence into custody in Lake County only on Tuesday.
According to the Orlando Police Department, Lawrence arrived at the airport with her 9-year-old miniature schnauzer, Tywinn, intending to travel. However, she was informed that she did not have the necessary paperwork to bring the dog on board. Without the required documentation, she was not allowed to fly with her pet.
Shortly after being informed of the airline’s policy, Lawrence was seen entering an airport restroom. A staff member later discovered her sitting on the floor of a bathroom stall, attempting to clean up a significant amount of water and scattered dog food. The employee initially left but returned later to empty a trash bin. Upon opening it, they found Tywinn’s lifeless body inside a garbage bag, along with his collar and identification tag.
Authorities later identified the dog as Tywinn by scanning his microchip. A further investigation confirmed that the cause of death was drowning. The police report described Lawrence’s actions as an extreme and tragic case of animal cruelty.
Following the investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant, and Lawrence was taken into custody in Lake County. She has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty, a serious offense that carries legal consequences. The case has sparked public outrage, with many expressing shock and grief over the dog’s tragic fate.
