Chinese National Who Kicked a Cat to Death Arrested for Overstaying

Viral ‘Cat Killer’ Caught Overstaying in the Philippines

ANIMAL CRUELTY – A Chinese national who became infamous for allegedly kicking a cat to death at Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati has been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for overstaying in the country.

Jiang Shan, 32, was apprehended by BI intelligence officers outside his residence in Barangay Palanan. Authorities discovered that he had overstayed his visa, having arrived in the Philippines as a tourist in May 2023 but failing to extend his stay beyond September 2023.

During the arrest, Jiang was unable to present any valid documentation. He was immediately taken into custody, processed, and transferred to the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig, where he awaits deportation proceedings.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized the importance of foreign nationals adhering to Philippine laws. “Filipinos are known to be very hospitable to our guests,” said Viado. “But guests should not come to our houses kicking our pets. His cruel action led to the BI conducting checks on his records, and now he’s detained to be deported,” Viado stated.

Jiang became the center of public outrage after a video of him kicking a community cat named “Ken” went viral. The cat, which had been resting peacefully on a walkway, later died from its injuries. The incident sparked widespread condemnation, with many demanding justice for the slain animal.

Witnesses reported that Jiang was uncooperative and dismissive when confronted by concerned citizens. His refusal to provide any personal information further fueled public anger.

With Jiang now in detention, authorities continue to remind foreign nationals to respect local laws and customs while in the Philippines. His case serves as a strong warning that animal cruelty and violations of immigration regulations will not be tolerated.
