Why Nora Aunor Stepped Back from the 2025 Elections
NORA AUNOR – The National Artist and legendary actress has explained her sudden withdrawal from the upcoming 2025 midterm elections. Initially serving as the second nominee for the People’s Champ Guardians party-list, Aunor decided to step down and instead lend her support to another group, Kabayan.
Had the People’s Champ Guardians party-list secured the required percentage of votes, Aunor would have been eligible for a seat in the House of Representatives. A party-list can earn up to three seats in Congress, depending on the number of votes it receives. However, Aunor ultimately chose to withdraw her nomination, citing personal and professional reasons.
In an official statement, Aunor addressed the public and explained her decision. She initially accepted the nomination because she believed in the party-list’s mission and advocacy. However, as time passed, she realized that their goals and principles were not aligned with hers. This realization played a significant role in her decision to step back.

Additionally, Aunor’s doctors advised her to avoid stressful situations, such as campaigning, due to health concerns. She also admitted that she lost trust in the individual who persuaded her to join the party-list. Furthermore, she felt that there was no clear discussion about her role in the organization’s leadership. Given these factors, she ultimately decided to withdraw her candidacy.
Despite stepping away from the election, Aunor reassured the public that she remains committed to helping those in need, particularly her fellow industry workers. She expressed her dedication to continuing her advocacy in other ways, even without holding a political position. The esteemed actress ended her statement by thanking her supporters and wishing for God’s continued guidance for everyone.
