Pepsi Paloma Movie’s February 5 Theatrical Release Delayed
PEPSI PALOMA MOVIE – The theatrical release of the film about the late 1980s actress, originally scheduled for February 5, 2025, has been postponed.
Director Darryl Yap confirmed the delay on February 3 through a Facebook post, explaining that he failed to complete the necessary documents required by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). “Ipinaaabot ko po sa lahat ng nakasubaybay na bigo po ang panig ng inyong lingkod na agarang makumpleto ang mga dokumentong hinihingi ng pamunuan ng MTRCB kaya’t imposible pong maipalabas ang ating pelikula sa February 5,” Yap stated.
He mentioned that alternative options are being considered, such as premiering the film overseas or prioritizing its release on streaming platforms. Yap assured the public that further updates would be provided once a final decision is made. Additionally, he noted that February and March are already fully booked, meaning the new screening dates will depend on when the required documents are completed.
The MTRCB is requiring the film’s producers to secure a Certificate of No Pending Criminal, Civil, or Administrative Case from the Regional Trial Court of Muntinlupa City, the Department of Justice, and the Office of the City Prosecutor in Muntinlupa. This requirement stems from the legal controversies surrounding the film.
On January 9, 2025, veteran comedian and Eat Bulaga! host Vic Sotto filed 19 cyber libel complaints against Yap with the Muntinlupa City Prosecutor’s Office. The complaints were triggered by the film’s teaser, which referenced Sotto’s name. Sotto is seeking PHP 30 million in damages, claiming that Yap made “malicious and defamatory statements” against him. As controversy continues to surround The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma, its fate remains uncertain. For now, Yap and his team must resolve the legal challenges before determining the next steps for the film’s release.
