Plus-Sized Woman Confronts Relatives Who Labeled Her Fat During Family Gathering

Plus-Sized Woman Stands Up to Relatives for Body-Shaming

STOP BODY SHAMING – An anonymous “plus-sized” woman recently went viral after sharing her experience on the “Truth Slaps” Facebook page, where she stood up to two aunts who introduced her to relatives with unnecessary remarks about her body. The post, captioned “Ekis talaga sa mga ganitong relatives,” struck a chord with many netizens and sparked conversations about body-shaming within families.

In her account, she explained that while she was used to being called names related to her weight, she finally decided to address it during a visit to her mother’s cousin. During introductions, her “Tita A” said, “Ito pala anak ni (pangalan ng Mom niya) ang taba.” She felt the comment was unnecessary and disrespectful.

Later, “Tita B” introduced her in the middle of a conversation, saying, “’Yan anak ni (Mom ko), mas malaki pa sa Mama’ sabay tawa lahat,” which was met with laughter.

This time, she refused to stay silent. In a firm but sarcastic tone, she responded, “Pwede niyo naman sabihin na anak lang. Ba’t kailangan pa dugtungan ng ganyan?” Her unexpected reaction silenced everyone, as she was not the type to confront such comments directly.

Although she did not hold onto anger and acted normal on their way home, she felt relieved to have spoken up. She believed it was important to correct such behavior, hoping her relatives would realize the harm they were causing.

The post gained massive attention, with many netizens sharing their own experiences and frustrations about body-shaming, particularly in Filipino family gatherings. Some pointed out how bullying often starts at home, while others criticized the older generation’s insensitivity toward emotions.

As of this writing, the post has received 6.9k reactions, 1.7k shares, and 177 comments, with many agreeing that unfiltered remarks from family members contribute to a culture that normalizes body-shaming.
