Marilaque Road Safety Measures Tightened After Tragic Crash
LTO and PNP – The Land Transportation Office and the Philippine National Police are stepping up their efforts to improve safety on Marilaque Road in Rizal, following a series of motorcycle accidents. This includes the tragic death of a motovlogger in a viral crash that happened after performing a stunt called the “Superman”.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, highlighted the need for more enforcement in the area to stop reckless riding. On January 27, PNP-Highway Patrol Group Director Police Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta met with Asec Mendoza to talk about ways to improve cooperation and ensure road safety. They focused on tackling the issue of motorcycle stunts on the road.
Asec Mendoza has directed the LTO-Calabarzon Regional Director to team up with local police and government units to stop the area from becoming a popular spot for dangerous stunts. He emphasized that these risky behaviors not only put riders in danger but also affect other road users, citing the recent incident where motovlogger John Louie Arguelles tragically lost his life.
To address this, the LTO and PNP plan to increase their presence and enforcement in the area to discourage such actions. The LTO also plans to issue a show cause order (SCO) to the surviving rider involved in the crash, asking him to explain his actions. The rider faces criminal charges, including reckless driving and improper handling of a vehicle.
Asec Mendoza urged motorcyclists to avoid using public roads for stunts, stressing that there are proper places for such activities. He reminded everyone of the importance of responsible driving, warning that public roads are not the place for risky displays that put lives in danger. The LTO and local authorities are working together to make sure stricter rules are enforced and prevent future accidents.
