Sampaguita Vendor and Security Guard Viral Video Draws Reactions from John Arcilla and Derek Ramsay
JOHN ARCILLA and DEREK RAMSAY – The two actors shared their thoughts on the viral video involving a Sampaguita vendor and a security guard.
A viral video featuring a Sampaguita vendor and a security guard has been circulating online. The footage shows a young female student selling sampaguita garlands outside a mall, where she is aggressively confronted by a security guard. The guard, holding her garlands and a box, appears to be trying to remove her from the premises, likely due to the mall’s prohibition on street vending.
The conflict escalated when the guard forcefully took the garlands from the girl, damaging them in the process. Angered by this, the girl retaliated by hitting the guard with the remaining garlands. At one point, the guard seemed to kick the girl, an action that has provoked significant public outrage.
John Arcilla questioned why the child had to sell Sampaguita, pointing out the tough realities of poverty. He stressed that the child wasn’t hurting anyone and regretted that the incident made the child’s already hard life even tougher. He showed understanding of the child’s anger and asked for kindness from those in authority, suggesting that the guard be given a proper lesson for his actions.
On the other hand, Derek Ramsay found it upsetting that no one tried to calm the situation, criticizing the bystanders who chose to film instead of helping. He recognized the difficulty of the incident, noting that both the guard and the child probably made mistakes. However, he was especially critical of the person who recorded the video, accusing them of focusing more on capturing a sad scene rather than stepping in to help, even adding sad music to the video.
As of press time, neither the sampaguita vendor nor the dismissed security guard has issued any statement regarding the incident.
