Princess Marcial Receives Support from Gabriela Party-List in Legal Battle Against Eumir Marcial
GABRIELA PARTY-LIST – The group has expressed support for Princess Marcial, who recently filed complaints against her husband, Olympic boxer Eumir Marcial, for violation of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Act and concubinage.
Gabriela’s first nominee, Sarah Elago, emphasized that no woman should endure any form of abuse, regardless of her partner’s social standing or influence. Elago stated, “Walang pinipiling estado sa buhay o katayuan sa lipunan ang karahasan laban sa kababaihan. Whether you are married to a public figure or not, violence against women is violence against women – it must be condemned and perpetrators must be held accountable.”
Elago pointed out that Princess’ case highlights the challenges faced by victims seeking justice. She noted that speaking out against well-known figures is difficult, but every action taken to fight VAWC encourages other women in similar situations to stand up for their rights.
She also urged the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to conduct its own investigation, stressing that athletes, especially those representing the country, should uphold high moral and ethical standards. “Hindi pwedeng ang husay lang sa sports ang titingnan – their conduct and treatment of women should also be scrutinized,” Elago added. Gabriela Party-List assured that it would closely monitor the case to ensure that proper legal procedures are followed and that justice is served.
Meanwhile, Eumir Felix de los Santos Marcial is a boxer who has made significant achievements in both amateur and professional boxing. He won a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics, making history as the first Filipino boxer to win an Olympic medal since 1992.
He’s married to fellow boxer Princess Jenniel Galarpe. However, earlier, Princess filed a lawsuit against him, accusing him of abuse, infidelity, and manipulative behavior. She claims to have caught him with a mistress in October 2024. Eumir denies the allegations, stating that he was the victim of abuse and was already estranged from his wife before the 2024 Summer Olympics. He insists that the woman in question is just a friend.
