Pauleen Luna Reacts to Controversial Teaser of Darryl Yap’s Movie About Pepsi Paloma
PAULEEN LUNA – The wife of Vic Sotto stood by the comedian-television host as he filed cyber libel complaints against the controversial director Darryl Yap. The complaint, lodged at the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court on January 9, 2025, stemmed from a teaser released on January 1, 2025, for Yap’s upcoming film The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma, which directly mentioned Vic’s name.
Vic filed 19 counts of cyber libel and sought PHP 35 million in damages—PHP 20 million for moral damages and PHP 15 million for exemplary damages—citing the defamatory nature of the teaser. The teaser allegedly caused significant distress to the Sotto family, affecting them personally.
While Vic was giving interviews and posing for photos, Pauleen, who was waiting inside their car, was approached by PEP.ph for her thoughts on the situation. Her response was concise yet revealing, echoing her husband’s sentiments. She expressed that, as a wife and a mother, she was naturally affected by the controversy, stating, “Of course, as parents and as his wife, naapektuhan po kami.”
When asked how painful the situation was for her, Pauleen simply replied, “Like what I said, just like how any married woman would,” emphasizing her solidarity with her husband’s feelings.
Pauleen believed that filing the complaints was the appropriate response to the issue. According to Vic’s lawyer, Atty. Buko dela Cruz, the Sotto family, including their daughter Tali, had been subjected to online bullying as a result of the teaser’s release. This legal action was seen as a necessary step to protect their family’s dignity and well-being.
In response to Vic Sotto’s cyber libel charges, Darryl Yap shared that everyone has the right to file a complaint, and no one can claim exclusive ownership over justice or truth. He confidently mentioned that, in the end, the truth will be the strongest defense.
Yap explained that the allegations against Sotto have already been covered in various news articles, deleted videos, and old newspapers. He suggested that this case could eventually make its way back to court, hinting that there might be more to unfold in the legal process.
