Rowena Guanzon Urges Followers Not to Cancel Kiko Pangilinan
ROWENA GUANZON – The former COMELEC commissioner shared her thoughts on the possibility of “cancel culture” after posting a news report featuring former Senator Kiko Pangilinan alongside President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos.
The photo, originally shared by Pangilinan’s wife, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, drew public interest following their attendance at the “Konsyerto sa Palasyo” event on December 15. The concert celebrated the contributions of Filipino cinema to arts and culture.
On December 16, Guanzon took to the social media platform X, urging the public not to “cancel” Pangilinan, emphasizing that the event was a Christmas concert, not a political gathering. She also acknowledged the respectful behavior displayed by President Marcos and First Lady Liza, highlighting that such moments should be appreciated.
Pangilinan, who ran for vice president alongside former Vice President Leni Robredo in the 2022 elections, was a political rival of President Marcos. Despite their past political rivalry, Guanzon encouraged the public to approach the situation with understanding, stressing that unity and mutual respect are possible beyond politics, especially during the holiday season.
Meanwhile, Konsyerto sa Palasyo is a cultural event organized by the Philippine government to celebrate and support the local film industry. Its fifth installment, titled Konsyerto sa Palasyo: Para Pelikulang Pilipino, showcased the contributions of Filipino cinema to arts and culture while demonstrating the administration’s commitment to reviving the struggling industry.
Also present at the event was the Unkabogable Star Vice Ganda. Earlier, the award-winning comedian shared his thoughts on Konsyerto sa Palasyo. In an interview with PTV, Vice expressed his gratitude for the concert, emphasizing its significant role in supporting the Filipino movie industry. “Pero sa ngayon, na-aappreciate namin ito. Malaking tulong ito, lalo pa’t talagang naghihingalo ang pelikulang Pilipino. Anumang tulong ay talagang ma-aappreciate nating lahat,” Vice said.
