This, as the Department of Health gave an update on the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines as of 4:00 p.m. today, August 31, 2020.
According to its COVID-19 Case Bulletin #170 dated August 31, 2020, the Department of Health reported 3,446 newly-reported COVID-19 cases, which brought the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease to 220,819.
In addition, the Department of Health stated that the newly-confirmed cases on Monday were reported based on the total tests done by 97 out of 110 current operational laboratories. Moreover, 2,965 out of 3,446 newly-reported cases occurred within the recent 14 days — from August 18 to 31.

In addition, the Department of Health reported 59,699 total active cases as stated in its COVID-19 Case Bulletin #170 dated August 31, 2020.
Moreover, the Department of Health identified the top five areas with the highest number of new coronavirus cases as of August 31 only: Metro Manila with 1,900 new cases, Laguna with 163 new cases, Cavite with 161 new cases, Leyte with 155 new cases, and Pampanga with 116 new cases.
Aside from the number of confirmed cases, the Department of Health had recorded 165 newly-reported recoveries and 38 newly-reported fatalities. This brought the total number of recoveries to 157,562 and total coronavirus deaths to 3,558.
