Sen. Cynthia Villar Explains Viral Video Inside a Church
CYNTHIA VILLAR – The outgoing senator has denied accusations that she confronted Las Piñas Councilor Mark Anthony Santos, her political rival for the city’s lone congressional seat in the 2025 elections, during a recent church event.
In a statement made during an impromptu interview shared by ABS-CBN News, Villar clarified that she did not approach Santos aggressively, as some reports suggested. She explained that she was merely sitting next to him during the event.
However, Villar acknowledged that she told Santos not to approach her or try to shake her hand. According to Villar, her comments were prompted by her belief that Santos and his supporters had been funding media efforts to tarnish her family’s reputation.
“Hindi ko sinugod, katabi ko eh. Kasi sila ang nagbabayad sa media ng paninira sa aming pamilya. Bakit pa niya ako lalapitan at kakamayan? Wag na niya akong batiin, sinabi ko sa kanya ‘yun. Wag mo na akong batiin kasi sinisiraan niyo naman ang pamilya namin,” Villar explained.
A viral video of the incident circulated online, showing Villar briefly moving toward Santos, but their conversation was not captured in the footage. Villar took this opportunity to stress that she does not let negative comments about her or her family affect her. She attributed the attacks to her performance as a public servant, suggesting that her critics have nothing else to use against her but to spread negative stories.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some questioning Villar’s decision to address Santos at a church event, while others supported her position. Despite the controversy, Villar remains confident in her accomplishments and maintains that her track record speaks for itself. “I’d like to believe na ang laki ng performance ko kaya wala naman silang magagawa kundi gawin yun,” she said.
