Meet Ryuta Watanabe, a Japanese Man Who Wants to Be Known as the “God of Marriage”
RYUTA WATANABE – A Japanese man from Hokkaido has become the subject of social media discussions due to his unconventional lifestyle.
Watanabe, who has four wives and two girlfriends, aims to have 54 children and be known as the “God of Marriage.” Despite being unemployed for 10 years, he relies on the income from his wives, who are legally recognized as his common-law partners, and his girlfriends.
Watanabe’s journey started six years ago after a heartbreak from a breakup, which led him to explore dating apps. It was there that he met the women who are now part of his unconventional family. He currently has ten children, and two of his wives, along with three of his partners, live with him in one house. As the househusband, Watanabe is responsible for cooking, doing household chores, and caring for the children.
The monthly household expenses, amounting to about 914,000 yen (around PHP 351,396), are shared among his wives and girlfriends. Watanabe claims that his relationships are harmonious, with no jealousy among his wives, who reportedly get along like friends. Each wife has her own room and a rotating sleeping schedule with him.
Watanabe is determined to break the record for the most children in Japan. The current record is held by Tokugawa Ienari, a shogun who fathered 53 children with 27 concubines during the Edo period. Watanabe wishes to surpass this record and cement his place in history. He also says he is still looking for more wives to help him reach his goal of 54 children. However, due to Japan’s laws prohibiting polygamy, Watanabe cannot legally marry more than one woman.
His story highlights the unconventional nature of his relationships and his determination to leave a lasting legacy.
