Applicant Receives “Reply” for Application Letter Sent 48 Years Ago

Applicant Gets Response to Job Application Submitted 48 Years Ago

TIZI HODSON – A resident of Gedney Hill, Lincolnshire, England, wondered for 48 years why she never received a response to her job application sent on January 14, 1976. She had applied to become a motorcycle stunt rider but never heard back from the company.

In October 2024, she received a letter from the post office where she had submitted her application. The letter included a note stating that her application had been stuck in a drawer at the post office for many years and was being returned to her because it had never been delivered to the intended company.

At seventy years old, Tizi reflected on her career in an article published by NDTV on October 7, 2024. Despite the lack of response to her application, she successfully pursued her passion as a motorcycle stunt rider, which allowed her to travel to various countries around the world.

Tizi expressed astonishment at receiving her application letter after so many years. The handwritten note attached to her application read, “Late delivery by Staines Post Office. Found behind a draw. Only about 50 years late.”

Uncertain about who returned her letter, she noted that she hadn’t seen who placed it in her mailbox and was puzzled about how they found her since she had moved about 50 times and lived in different countries.

Despite the long wait, Tizi felt immense gratitude for the return of her application letter. She recalled sitting in her flat in London, excitedly typing the letter, and being disappointed each day when no response arrived. She had wanted to be a motorcycle stunt rider deeply and felt that not specifying her gender in the application might have impacted her chances.

Undeterred, Tizi continued to seek jobs often avoided by women, becoming a snake handler in Africa and a caretaker for horses, while also learning to fly planes and becoming an aerobatic pilot and flying instructor. Her attitude has always been, “Go and do everything I’ve done.”
