Thomas Ceccon, a Gold Medalist Thomas, was Spotted Napping in Olympic Village Grounds

THOMAS CECCON – A gold medalist at the Paris Olympics 2024, was spotted napping on the grounds of the Olympic Village.

As the Paris Olympics 2024 draws to a close on August 11, athletes have voiced concerns over the subpar living conditions in the Olympic Village. A recent Instagram reel uploaded by Saudi rower Husein Alireza on August 4 captured Italian gold medalist swimmer Thomas Ceccon napping on the grounds beneath a bench, adding to the growing discussion about the village’s facilities.

Thomas Ceccon, who won gold in the 100-meter backstroke and bronze in the freestyle relay, has been outspoken about the inadequate conditions within the Olympic Village. In the video, Ceccon is seen laying on a white towel on the grass under a tree, wrapped up and peacefully asleep. This footage, tagged with the location “Olympic Village grounds,” came after Ceccon had previously criticized the quality of accommodations, calling it “subpar” and expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of air conditioning and poor food quality.

The 23-year-old swimmer’s frustrations were voiced after his defeat in the 200-meter backstroke finals on July 31. He reported that the noise and heat in the village made it difficult for him to sleep, leading some athletes to relocate to other hotels. Despite his complaints, Ceccon managed to secure medals, but his inability to rest properly reportedly affected his performance in other events.

The Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) clarified that Ceccon’s nap on the grass was unrelated to his earlier criticisms. They explained that the video was taken during the daytime and emphasized that the athlete was simply taking a rest.

Ceccon is not alone in his dissatisfaction. Tennis player Coco Gauff revealed that a teammate had moved to a hotel due to cramped conditions. French swimmer Assia Touati noted the absence of air conditioning, which was only addressed when temperatures soared. Australian water polo player Matilda Kearns also complained about back pain from a hard bed.
