Some LGBT Say People Should Automatically Address Someone as ‘Ma’am’ If They Are Wearing Feminine Clothing
SIR OR MA’AM? – Several LGBT individuals said that people should automatically address someone as “ma’am” if they are wearing feminine clothing.
A discussion among members of the LGBT community went viral amid the controversy involving Jude Bacalso. The conversation, shared by vlogger AFAM Hunter, featured LGBT individuals debating how people should address others based on their appearance.
One participant argued that it should be obvious to call someone ‘ma’am’ if they are dressed in feminine clothing, noting, “We have eyes, you have eyes… You can see this person wearing heels, dress, long hair… diba parang common sense?”
Another participant, Kimberly Anne, supported this view, emphasizing that seeing someone with long hair and feminine attributes should make it apparent that ‘sir’ is inappropriate. Kimberly suggested that if people are unsure of someone’s pronouns, it might be better not to address them at all.
The video garnered mixed responses online, with some agreeing and others disagreeing with the perspectives shared. Kimberly later clarified that the discussion was recorded before the controversy involving LGBT writer Jude Bacalso began.
Meanwhile, Jude Bacalso, a travel writer and member of the LGBT community, has been making rounds online after allegedly forcing a waiter to stand for two hours when he was called “sir.” Bacalso has already issued an apology, but some netizens did not accept his explanation, as he claimed that he did not demand that the waiter stand for the entire duration; instead, the waiter volunteered to do so.
Apparently, the issue has turned into a blessing in disguise for the waiter, who continues to receive job offers locally and abroad. In fact, a businessman is offering him a supervisor position at a salon or in travel and tours. A job opportunity abroad also awaits the waiter. However, the waiter has yet to respond to the offers as well as the ongoing issue.
