Boy w/ Autism Kicked Out by Priest from Church for Playing Ball
NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES – A priest kicked out a boy with autism from the church after playing ball during its sister’s baptism.
Julia Vicidomini expressed her disappointment towards a priest who allegedly kicked her 7-year-old son out of the church during her daughter’s baptismal rites. She said that the priest should give sympathy and consideration towards a special child.
The enraged mom said that her non-verbal son identified as Nicky Vicidomini has special needs because of its condition. She described the priest as “unprofessional” and allegedly ruined their celebration.
The disappointed woman attempted to explain to the priest that her boy has autism but the priest reportedly refused to listen to her explanation. The priest also refused to apologize to the incident.
However, Julie admitted that they failed to inform the priest that her son has autism but clearly explained the situation. She also decided that her family would not go back to that church and withdrew her friendship.
The Archdiocese of Newark issued an apology towards Vicidomini on behalf of the parish for the inappropriate behavior of the priest.
The lady is hoping that her child’s story might serve as an awareness to others to kindly accept kids with autism.
“Individuals with special needs need to feel comfortable being able to go out into the community in any capacity that they are able to handle, even if it means having a ball or toy with them for comfort,” Julia said.
