Gatchalian Advocates For Tesda Training for Senior High School Teachers
GATCHALIAN – Senator Sherwin Gatchalian suggested Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) training for senior high school teachers.
Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian stated that senior high school teachers in the technical-vocational livelihood (TVL) track need to complete training and obtain certification from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) to proficiently teach their students the required skills.
Gatchalian, who leads the Senate basic education committee, noted that this training and certification program is designed to improve the quality of education in senior high schools (SHS) and boost students’ chances of securing employment after graduation.
Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian pointed out that the 2024 national budget includes a P50 million allocation to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the training and certification of TVL teachers. He also stressed that this initiative will ensure that the TVL track in senior high schools aligns with Tesda’s standards.
“Along with our efforts to improve the quality of training for senior high school learners, including their readiness for work, we are also pushing for the appropriate training and certification for our teachers,” said the politician.
“That’s why we suggested allocating funds so we could give our senior high school TVL teachers the necessary training from Tesda,” he added.
According to the report, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian additionally supported the inclusion of free assessment and certification for senior high school students in the TVL track in the 2024 national budget. He voiced his optimism that certifying these students would improve their chances of obtaining high-quality employment opportunities post-graduation.
An analysis conducted by his office revealed that half of the graduates from the TVL track are presently employed in basic occupations, such as vending, cleaning, domestic assistance, car and window cleaning, or street cleaning.
