BIR Logo Contest Offers P100,000 Prize
BIR LOGO – A whopping P100,000 prize awaits the winner of the logo competition hosted by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
The agency has organized a competition to change its logo for the first time, coinciding with its 120th anniversary celebration. According to BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr., one of the factors that led to the decision to change the logo is the “negative perception” associated with it.
BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. acknowledged that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has traditionally been viewed negatively. He stated that one of his main goals since taking office was to improve the agency’s image. He believes that introducing a new logo can help shift public perception by illustrating that significant improvements have occurred within the BIR. Lumagui emphasized that the logo redesign is part of broader efforts to showcase the positive changes at the agency.
BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. noted that the current BIR logo includes symbols representing major industries such as manufacturing, telecommunications, agriculture, and shipping, which were historically the largest taxpayers. However, he observed that the landscape has changed, and these industries might not be the biggest taxpayers anymore. He questioned why the logo continues to focus only on these select industries when the taxpayer base has diversified.
Recall that just last year, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) made headlines with its logo, which cost P3 million.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Internal Revenue is the tax authority in the Philippines responsible for assessing and collecting all national internal revenue taxes, fees, and charges, and for enforcing all related forfeitures, penalties, and fines. The agency also plays a crucial role in tracking and preventing tax evasion and ensuring compliance with tax laws in the country. This agency is essential in generating revenue that supports government spending and public services.
