It is a favorite of many Filipinos and you can check its recipe below.
Cansi is one of the beef dishes with a few ingredients. The first part of the Cansi recipe is the list of ingredients. To yield eight (8) servings of this sumptuous dish, here are the ingredients that you need to prepare:
- 2 kilo Beef Shank
- 2 stalks lemongrass tied into knots with thick end crushed
- 16 pcs small Batuan fruit or Batuan paste
- 0.5 kilo jackfruit, chopped
- 4 tbsp Atsuete oil
- 4 pcs medium onions, chopped
- 8 pcs finger chilis
- 10 to 12 cups Water
- 2 tsp salt
To prepare your atsuete oil for your Cansi, here are the steps that you may follow:
- Heat 1/2 cup canola oil and 1/4 cup atsuete seeds in a pot and let it simmer over low heat.
- Allow the atsuete to infuse in oil and render its color. Let it simmer for two (2) to three (3) more minutes before putting off the fire and allowing the oil to cool down.
- Strain the atsuete oil to remove the seeds. Transfer it in a bottle and store at a room temperature.
The other important part of the Cansi recipe is the cooking process. It may take up to one (1) hour and 45 minutes to come up with this delicious Pinoy favorite. Meanwhile, undeniably, the sumptuous dish will be worth the wait. Here are the steps on how to cook this delicious beef dish:
Step 1
Add one (1) kilo of beef and five (5) cups of water in a large pot. Cover the pot and bring it to a rapid boiling. Once it reaches its boiling point, lower the heat to remove the scum.
Step 2
Add the sliced onions, the lemongrass or tanglad, the batuan, and salt. Cover the pot and let it simmer for around 10 minutes.
Step 3
Add the jackfruit slices and two (2) tablespoons of the atsuete oil. Cover the pot again and let it simmer for 25 minutes more until the jackfruit is cooked and soft.
Step 4
Add four (4) chilis and two (2) tablespoons of soy sauce. Cover the pot again and let it simmer for three (3) minutes.
Step 5
Once the beef meat is already tender, you can check your Cansi’s taste and add more fish sauce based on your taste preference. Once done, you can transfer your dish into a serving bowl. Enjoy your meal!
