Shaira Moro Defends Lenka
SHAIRA MORO – The self-proclaimed Queen of Bangsamoro Pop has spoken out against her fans who are going overboard in criticizing Australian singer-songwriter Lenka.
This comes after her viral song “Selos” was removed from streaming platforms due to alleged copyright of sound and melody from Lenka’s 2008 song “Trouble is a Friend.” On her Facebook account, the OPM singer appealed to her Filipino supporters who have been speaking negatively about the Aussie singer.
“Nais ko lamang po makiusap sa lahat ng tumatangkilik at sumusuporta sa akin na nakapagkomento o nakapagsalita ng ‘di maganda at ‘di naaangkop laban kay Idol Lenka na kung maaari lamang ay tigilan na po natin ang pagtuligsa o pambabash sa kanya,” she said in the post.
According to Shaira, she understands the sadness felt by others after “Selos” was taken down from digital music apps, a song that had truly gained popularity among the masses. “Naiintindihan ko po ang sentiments [niyo] dahil sa pag-take down ng kantang ‘Selos,’ at nagpapasalamat po ako dahil kahit papaano ay [nandiyan] kayo na nagnanais na ipagtanggol ako,” she said.
The newcomer singer explained that Lenka’s camp had a proper conversation with Shaira’s team regarding their copyright concerns. “Subalit, nais ko [rin] pong ipaalam na naging maayos ang approach sa amin ng kampo ni Lenka, mabuti at maayos silang kausap. At nakikita namin na ginagawa lamang nila kung ano ‘yung tama at naaayon sa batas.”
“Sana po ay matigil na ang mga pambabash or pag-spread ng hate speech laban sa kanila, bagkus ay ipakita po natin na tayo ay Peace Loving Citizen,” she added.
Earlier, the producer of “Selos,” AHS Channel, issued an apology to Lenka via a Facebook post. They expressed regret to all who enjoyed “Selos,” now unavailable on streaming platforms, acknowledging its use of melody from Lenka’s “Trouble is a Friend.” They stated they were in contact with Lenka’s team to make “Selos” an official cover.
