Due to his “black out” joke, netizens accused Jose Manalo of being a racist
JOSE MANALO – The host of E.A.T has been accused of making a racist joke during the “Sugod Bahay Kapatid” segment of the noontime show. A video clip of the incident went viral on Twitter, drawing attention to Manalo’s remark.
The clip was shared by a Twitter user named “Anima Cristi Fermin” with the caption: “RACISM LIVE on TV! pag show ng parents walang MTRCB!” In the video, Jose Manalo can be seen cracking a joke with his co-host. He said, “Kapag napanalunan mo sa Bingo ‘to ‘yan ang tinatawag na ‘Black Out’.” Vic Sotto interrupted, asking, “Kumusta ang barangay?”
Netizens noticed the facial expressions of Paolo Ballesteros and Miles Ocampo, who were in the TV5 studio at that moment. They appeared disturbed by Jose’s remark, and Miles even adjusted her hair. Paolo exclaimed, “Huy!” while Allan K also had a surprised reaction. Joey, on the other hand, seemed serious and did not join in the banter.
Many netizens tagged the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board’s (MTRCB) account, which is overseen by Lala Sotto-Antonio, the daughter of E.A.T. host and former Senate President Tito Sotto and veteran actress Helen Gamboa.
As of press time, Jose Manalo has yet to issue any reaction regarding the criticisms that he has been receiving. It can be recalled that it was just recently when social media personality Rendon Labador criticized Tito Sotto’s on-air kiss with Helen, prompting him to raise concerns with MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto-Antonio.
