Dr. Anthony Fauci and Mark Zuckerberg talked about the importance of health and safety measures amid the pandemic.
Dr. Anthony Fauci on Thursday spoke with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg about the importance of health and safety measures amid the pandemic.
According to him, officials should be looking at public health measures as a “gateway” or a “vehicle” to opening the US again. He even compared the COVID-19 response in the United States to European countries’ response to the pandemic which saw a significant decrease in new coronavirus cases after halting almost-fully across the board.
Fauci recently described the United States as a “mixed bag” with several places were doing better than others, yet pointed to the danger in several areas that “jump over steps” in the country’s phased reopening plans.
According to him, there’s no reason why the country had 40, 50, 60 thousand cases aside from the fact that the government wasn’t doing “something correctly”.

In terms of reopening schools in the US, Fauci mentioned that the default should be trying to get children back in the classroom “wherever possible”, otherwise, there might be “negative consequences” for them who stayed home all day as well as parents who might have to adjust their respective work schedules accordingly.
Moreover, Fauci stated that those areas with high COVID-19 infection rates should consider modifying schools’ class structure or keeping schools closed in order to keep their students safe.
