After their controversial prank, Tukomi has been charged
TUKOMI – The content creators composed of Mark Lester San Rafael, Mark Hiroshi San Rafael, and Eleazar Stephen Fuentes, have been charged with alarm and sc@nd@l due to their “kidnap prank”.
It was on April 6 when the group staged a fake kidnapping scene, somewhere in Las Piñas. Apparently, the gimmick did not go through after P/SSgt. Ronnie Conmingo of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), who happened to be present during the incident, stopped them.
The police officer even pulled his gone after thinking that it was a real kidnapping incident. Fortunately, he did not pull the trigger after they explained that it was just a prank. Presently, they are facing a case filed by Conmigo.
As of press time, Tukomi has yet to issue any statement regarding the case they are facing.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, “alarm and sc@nd@l” is a criminal offense under Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code, which refers to acts that cause an alarm or disturbance to the public. The offense is committed through any act, utterance, or display that is offensive to the senses, and it can result in imprisonment for up to 30 days or a fine or both.
The government has been implementing stricter measures to regulate online content, including social media, in response to the increasing number of alarm and sc@nd@l cases involving social media personalities. The campaigns aim to raise awareness about the consequences of engaging in such acts and to promote responsible online behavior.
