NTC on SIM registration period: “Magiging sapat ‘yung 180 days”
SIM REGISTRATION – The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said that the 180-day registration period is enough for mobile phone users to register their SIMs.
Today, December 29, 2022 is the third day of nationwide SIM registration in the Philippines as telcos already started implementing the “SIM Registration Act” or the Republic Act No. 11934.
On Thursday, the NTC said that the 180-day registration period was seen to be enough based on the current onboarding status.
Deputy Commissioner Atty. Jon Paulo Salvahan said during the televised press briefing that the latest reports of telcos indicated that the 160 million – 180 million active mobile phone users can be registered within the prescribed period.
“Yung period po ng 180 days, based po sa rate ng registration natin which will improve on the later days, magiging sapat ‘yung 180 days,” Salvahan said.

Salvahan also attributed issues experienced by some mobile phone users on the 1st day to the influx of subscribers on the SIM registration portals of telcos, which have said to be addressed.
However, he said that the agency, along with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), is closely monitoring the registration process and could also extend the registration period for another 180 days if needed.
To recall, Globe Telecom said on Tuesday that the telco had informed the NTC about the issue on its registration portal.
Based on a report, data released by the National Telecommunications Commission showed that there were more than 3 million SIMs registered as of Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
