Coronavirus cases in the Philippines already reached over 18,000, according to DOH.
The Department of Health on Sunday announced that the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Philippines already reached over 18,000.
This, as the Department of Health reported an additional of 862 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as of May 31, 2020. Among the 862 additional cases, 16 were classified as “fresh” cases, while the remaining 846 were classified as “late” cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 18,086.
For “fresh” cases, six COVID-19 patients were from Metro Manila while the remaining 10 came from different areas in the Philippines. On the other hand, for the “late” cases, 238 COVID-19 patients were from Metro Manila, 81 were from Central Visayas, 235 were repatriates, and the remaining 292 were from different areas in the Philippines.
Aside from the number of confirmed cases, the Department of Health also reported 101 additional recoveries and seven new fatalities due to COVID-19. This brought the total number of recoveries to 3,909 and total fatalities to 957.
According to the Department of Health, the fresh cases recorded on Sunday were based on its “daily accomplishment reports” that were submitted by 15 out of 42 operational laboratories in the Philippines, while the late cases recorded from May 28-31 were based on the validation of “complete line lists from 27 operational laboratories” as well as the “partial line list from one laboratory”.
The Department of Health also mentioned that no more late cases would be recorded until the remaining 14 operational laboratories submit their line lists. Previously, the DOH explained that the public should expect additional COVID-19 cases in the succeeding days as the Philippines ramped up its testing capacity and its case validation capacity.
