LTFRB Encourages Cashless Payment In PUVs, Taxis

LTFRB Encourages Taxi and PUV Drivers To Have A Cashless Payment

In order to lessen the direct contact among passengers and drivers, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) encouraged taxi and PUV drivers to have cashless transactions.

This, after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board issued Memorandum Circular No. 2020-018 last May 15, which stated the guidelines for public utility vehicles that would resume operations in areas under the general community quarantine (GCQ).

The said guidelines include the receipt of fare payment of drivers via online payment platforms. LTFRB also stated that taxi operators should calibrate their taxi meters, adding that they should be registered with an online payment service of cashless transactions.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) incorporated the said guidelines in order to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 or coronavirus disease 2019 in compliance with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID)’s social distancing guidelines.

Also, the LTFRB issued Memorandum Circular No. 2020-020 which directs PUV drivers traveling expressways to install Radio Frequency IDs (RFID) on their vehicles upon the continuation of its operations in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in order to enforce contact-less transactions.

Aside from this, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board reminded the public utility vehicle operators that they’re subjected to penalties under Joint Administrative Order 2014-01, including the imposition of penalties and/or cancellation of CPC or PA, once they failed to comply with the said guidelines.
