Yiv Cortez’s Meme About Duterte Upsets Her Father

Rolando Cortez Calls Out Daughter Yiv Cortez Over Duterte Joke

YIV CORTEZ – The sister of Viy Cortez recently shared a meme about former President Rodrigo Duterte, which upset their father, Rolando Cortez.

On Facebook, Yiv posted an edited image of a private jet, claiming it was used to take Duterte to The Hague, Netherlands. The meme included the text, “Filipinos, this is the plane they used to kidnap my dad,” along with a shocked woman’s reaction photo saying, “Kidnap?!” Yiv jokingly captioned it “Sosyal!” (Fancy!).

However, Rolando did not find it amusing. He responded with a public Facebook post, expressing his disappointment and calling on his daughter to take responsibility. He shared screenshots of their conversation and emphasized the difference between expressing an opinion and insulting someone.

Rolando wrote, “IN BEHALF OF MY FAMILY, I’M ACCEPTING THE RESPONSIBILITY OF YIV’S ACTION!” He also quoted Arnold H. Glasow: “Telling a teenager the facts of life is like giving a fish a bath.” He explained that while he allows Yiv to make her own choices, he wants her to understand the importance of respect, especially when discussing political matters.

Rolando also warned Yiv to stop posting about politics, saying, “This is my last warning @Yiv Cortez, makakatikim ka na ng palo sakin pag di ka tumigil sa political post!” Yiv replied, “Maybe this is a lesson for me. Na-realize ko na pinapatahimik talaga ng kasamaan ang kabutihan.”

Despite the argument, Rolando shared that Yiv later apologized in person. “Pag-uwi ko sa bahay galing ng trabaho – yumayakap, umiiyak, at humihingi siya ng sorry. Enough for me, na hindi siya paluin ng belt,” he said. He also clarified that he does not support or oppose Duterte but respects him as a person.

After the issue gained attention, Yiv explained on TikTok that her parents were only worried about the death threats she had been receiving due to her political posts. “Nag-alala po kasi sila sa akin dahil sa mga death threats na natatanggap ko,” she said.
