VP Sara Warns FPRRD That He Might End Up Like Ninoy Aquino if He Returns to PH

VP Sara Warns Duterte of Ninoy Aquino-Like Fate

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President warned her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, about the potential dangers of returning to the Philippines, comparing his situation to that of the late Senator Ninoy Aquino.

During a meet-and-greet event with Duterte supporters in The Hague, Netherlands, on March 23, VP Sara revealed that FPRRD repeatedly asked during her visits to his detention center at the International Criminal Court (ICC) whether he could return home. He expressed his desire to go back to the Philippines to campaign for his mayoral candidacy in Davao City.

“Yun ang gusto niya, gusto niyang umuwi,” VP Sara stated. “Sinabi ko din sa kaniya yun, ‘Pa, sabi ko, ‘yung kagustuhan mo na umuwi, iyan din ‘yung katapusan ng buhay mo, magiging Ninoy Aquino Jr. ka’.” Duterte reportedly accepted the risk, replying, “Kung ganiyan ang kapalaran ko, then so be it. Basta lang mauwi ako sa Pilipinas.”

VP Sara admitted that she is deeply concerned about her father’s safety but said he remains determined to go back despite the dangers. Former President Duterte has been in ICC custody since his arrest on March 11 for alleged crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s controversial war on drugs.

Meanwhile, Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., a staunch critic of the Marcos regime, was assassinated on August 21, 1983, at Manila International Airport upon returning from exile in the U.S. Escorted by military personnel, he was shot in the head while descending from the plane. His murder sparked nationwide outrage, fueling protests that led to the 1986 People Power Revolution.

The government blamed a lone gunman, Rolando Galman, but many believe it was an orchestrated hit. Despite trials, the masterminds remain unidentified. Aquino’s death became a symbol of resistance against dictatorship, ultimately contributing to the downfall of Ferdinand Marcos.
