Senator Bato dela Rosa said there is no question on the validity of the arrest warrant against Duterte but asked about the government acting on the arrest. According to him, the former President’s arrest and the transfer to the custody of the ICC is a “betrayal to the max” by Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Malacañang previously defended the President saying the government only did its job and the President did not betray anyone. Both Marcos and the Palace stressed that the government acted on the arrest in lieu of its commitment with the Interpol.

Unexpectedly, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos expressed that there seems to be no due process in Duterte’s arrest. The Senator who is seeking reelection this May 2025 led the Senate investigation on the arrest of the former President.

According to Sen. Imee Marcos, she has yet to talk to Pres. Bongbong Marcos over the arrest of Duterte. Since the unexpected turn of events last March 11, the Senator has repeatedly skipped the campaign rally of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago led by her brother, PBBM.

Sen. Marcos stressed that she cannot accept what was done to former Pres. Duterte. It is no secret to the public that she and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte are friends. Recently, the Vice President revealed that her father wants to come home to the Philippines and she did warn him about it.

“At ‘yon ang gusto niya, gusto niyang umuwi. Sinabi ko din sa kanya yon, ‘Pa, sabi ko ‘yung kagustuhan mo na umuwi, iyan din ‘yung katapusan ng buhay mo, magiging Ninoy Aquino Jr. ka,” the Vice President told their supporters at a meet-and-greet event at the Het Malieveld Park in The Hague.
