Julie’s Bakeshop Covers Kim Chiu’s Posters in Davao
KIM CHIU – The actress and It’s Showtime host had her promotional posters reportedly covered at a Julie’s Bakeshop branch in Indangan, Davao City. This incident follows criticism directed at Chiu after her March 12 opening spiel on It’s Showtime, which some linked to the ongoing legal situation of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The controversy began when Kim Chiu used the term “Dasurv!” while delivering her lines in the March 12 episode of It’s Showtime. Addressing the audience, she said, “Kung feeling nila ay hindi pa dumarating ang tamang panahon para sa kanila, ang masasabi namin, ‘Dasurv!’” The audience responded with laughter, and the episode carried the hashtag #ShowtimeDasurvRumesbak.
Shortly after, a netizen accused Kim of referencing former President Rodrigo Duterte, linking her statement to the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest order against him. The netizen claimed Kim implied Duterte ‘deserved’ to be jailed and questioned how she could say such a thing despite his millions of supporters.

In response, Kim Chiu denied the allegation and expressed her frustration on social media, saying she was unfairly dragged into the controversy. She emphasized that she was simply reading a script and asked people not to involve her in political issues.

Meanwhile, photos circulated on social media showing Chiu’s face covered on the bakery’s promotional materials despite being an official brand endorser. Netizens shared mixed reactions, questioning whether the removal of her image was intentional or purely coincidental. It remains unclear whether this action was directly linked to the controversy or simply an independent decision by the store.

As of press time, Julie’s Bakeshop, a well-known bakery chain founded in 1981 in Cebu City by Julie Gandionco, has yet to release an official statement regarding the matter.
