P1 Reward for Mosquitoes and Larvae to Fight Dengue in Mandaluyong
MANDALUYONG CITY – Barangay Addition Hills is offering a P1 reward for every mosquito or larva caught or killed as part of efforts to combat the rising dengue cases in the area. This initiative, which will begin on Friday, February 21, aims to reduce the spread of the disease. The local government has set up an aquarium to store and eliminate the captured mosquitoes and larvae.
The reward system was introduced in response to the increasing number of dengue cases since the beginning of 2025. Barangay officials hope this initiative will encourage residents to participate in the fight against dengue. In addition to this program, the Department of Health continues to promote the 4S strategy to prevent the disease: Search and destroy breeding sites, Secure self-protection, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging or spraying in high-risk areas, particularly during the rainy season.
Infectious disease expert Dr. Rontgene Solante also reminded the public not to delay seeking medical attention if they experience signs of dengue, such as high fever, rashes, vomiting, or stomach pains. Early treatment is crucial for recovery.

Meanwhile, dengue is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes, particularly Aedes aegypti, common in tropical regions. It is transmitted through mosquito bites and causes symptoms like high fever, headaches, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, and skin rashes. In severe cases, it can develop into dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome, both of which are life-threatening.
If you suspect you have dengue, seek medical attention immediately. Early diagnosis and treatment are vital for recovery. Staying hydrated is essential, as dengue can lead to dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids, such as water, oral rehydration solutions, or coconut water. Rest is also important, so avoid strenuous activities.

Take pain relievers like paracetamol to reduce fever and pain, but avoid aspirin or ibuprofen, as these can increase the risk of bleeding. Monitor your symptoms closely, and if you experience persistent vomiting, difficulty breathing, or signs of bleeding, seek emergency care immediately. By following these steps and consulting your doctor, you can manage dengue and reduce the risk of complications.
