Get to Know More About Rhed Bustamante
RHED BUSTAMANTE – Controversial director Darryl Yap recently announced that the award-winning teen star will portray the late 1980s actress Pepsi Paloma in his upcoming film, The Rap*sts of Pepsi Paloma. The announcement came following the release of a teaser titled Laban o Bawi on January 1, 2025, which sparked widespread discussion online.
In the emotional teaser, actress Gina Alajar, playing the late Charito Solis, confronts Bustamante’s character, Pepsi Paloma, asking if she was rap*d by Vic Sotto. Bustamante’s character responds affirmatively, with the teaser referencing Paloma’s 1982 rap* case against Sotto and others, which was later withdrawn. The 26-second clip quickly gained traction, trending on social media and reigniting public interest in the controversial case. The teaser also officially introduced Bustamante in her role as Paloma.
In a Facebook post, Yap explained his decision to cast Bustamante, emphasizing her beauty, talent, and courage. He noted that since Paloma entered showbiz at the age of 14, it was fitting for a former child star like Bustamante to portray her. Yap expressed gratitude to Bustamante for her trust and dedication to the project, calling it a dream come true for a native of Olongapo City to narrate the story of her fellow townsfolk.
Meanwhile, Rhed Bustamante gained recognition as one of her generation’s most promising child stars. She appeared in ABS-CBN shows such as FlordeLiza and the film Seklusyon, which earned her the “Child Performer of the Year” award and a Gawad Urian nomination for “Best Supporting Actress.” However, her career slowed down, and she temporarily left the spotlight.
In a 2018 interview with Korina Sanchez, Bustamante shared the challenges she faced, including financial difficulties, frequent relocations, and selling food with her mother at a train station. She also battled a skin condition called incontinentia pigmenti, which, although treatable, posed significant health risks.
Despite these struggles, Bustamante has remained active on social media, where her transformation into a stunning teen has captured public attention. Now, in 2025, fans eagerly anticipate her return to the big screen in Yap’s highly anticipated film.
