The Reunion of the Softdrink Beauties
SOFTDRINK BEAUTIES – The 80s group, now composed of Sarsi Emmanuelle, Myra Manibog, and Coca Nicolas, reunited to address the issue surrounding Pepsi Paloma.
The “Softdrink Beauties” of the 1980s were a group of Filipino actresses coined by talent scout Rey Dela Cruz, who gave them names inspired by popular soft drink brands. Among them was Pepsi Paloma (Delia Dueñas Smith), a controversial figure whose life ended tragically in 1985 after a highly publicized case involving an alleged assault.
Coca Nicolas (Johnnalee Hickins), a British-Filipino actress, entered showbiz at the age of 15 and gained fame through her roles in bold films. Mirinda “Myra” Manibog began her career unexpectedly, stepping in for another actress on set, and became known for her bold film roles, though she later faced personal struggles, including issues with substance abuse.
Lastly, Sarsi Emmanuelle (Maria Jennifer Obregon Mitchell) was discovered by Dela Cruz after personal hardships and became a notable figure in the bold film industry. These actresses, with their distinctive “soft drink” names, made a mark in the entertainment scene of the 1980s, remembered both for their roles and the unique branding they carried.
In a recent interview, Julius Babao directly asked members of the “Softdrink Beauties” group—Sarsi Emmanuelle, Myra Manibog, and Coca Nicolas—about the ongoing issue involving their late colleague, Pepsi Paloma.
The three women firmly stated that they did not believe the circulating reports about Pepsi and that these claims were untrue. According to them, they knew the real story behind the events, which was not merely based on rumors.
Given Vic Sotto’s ongoing legal case against Darryl Yap, they chose not to delve deeply into the details of the issue. However, they shared that their former manager, Tito Rey, was known for being a “gimikero.” Myra commented, “Anything, he will use anything para pag-usapan ang alaga niya,” reflecting their understanding of Tito Rey’s approach to boosting their careers at the time.
