Movie about Pepsi Paloma is Trending on X
PEPSI PALOMA – The movie about the controversial 1980s actress, directed by Darryl Yap, is trending on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Pepsi Paloma, born Delia Dueñas Smith on July 17, 1966, in Manila, Philippines, was a Filipino-American actress and dancer. She gained fame in the 1980s as one of the “Softdrink Beauties,” a group of actresses known for their daring roles in films like Brown Emmanuelle, Virgin People, and Snake Sisters.
Despite her success, Pepsi’s life was marked by challenges. In 1982, she accused three well-known comedians—Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie D’Horsie—of molesting her. However, under alleged pressure and intimidation, she withdrew the case, and the accused publicly apologized.
Pepsi’s life came to a tragic end on May 31, 1985, when she was found dead at the age of 18 after allegedly taking her own life. Her death has been linked to the trauma and pressures she faced, leaving a legacy that continues to spark conversations about justice and protection in the entertainment industry.
Meanwhile, Pepsi Paloma is trending on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter) due to the movie about her, directed by Darryl Yap. Titled The Rap*sts of Pepsi Paloma, the biopic stars Rhed Bustamante as Pepsi Paloma, along with Gina Alajar, Mon Confiado, Shamaine Buencamino, and Andres Balano Jr.
Yap, a fellow Olongapeña, felt compelled to tell her story, focusing on her allegations and the unresolved issues surrounding her death. His teaser for the film sparked public discussion by mentioning Vic Sotto’s name among the accused, aiming to provoke reflection on past events. Yap intends to use the film to explore Pepsi’s life and legacy, particularly as the 40th anniversary of her death approaches.
As of press time, TVJ (Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon) have yet to issue any reaction to the upcoming movie.
