Iloilo City Disapproves of Juan Karlos’ Controversial Dinagyang Performance
JUAN KARLOS – The Iloilo City Government has expressed its disapproval over the controversial performance of the singer during the Dinagyang Festival 2025.
According to Mayor Jerry Trenas, he was informed about the incident in which JK used offensive language, including the phrase “Y*DIP***,” during his appearance at one of the event’s shows. The Mayor condemned this act, stating that the public exposure of such language was inappropriate for a religious event, especially one that attracts tourists. He also mentioned that the singer’s mention of a stall at the Dinagyang Food Festival further embarrassed the occasion.
Iloilo City Councilor Alan Zaldivar, who was deeply disappointed by the incident, called for a discussion in the upcoming council session. Zaldivar expressed his regret over the spread of videos online, showing JK using a derogatory term, which was a modified version of his 2023 hit song “Ere.”
He emphasized that such behavior does not align with the cultural and religious aspects of the Dinagyang Festival, and added that the city government should work closely with the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI) and show organizers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This is not the first time a performer has caused controversy at a Dinagyang event, and Zaldivar believes that setting clear guidelines for performers and event organizers is essential to maintain the integrity and reputation of the festival. He called for a meeting between the city government and all event organizers to discuss and address the issue thoroughly.
