After Facing Backlash for Mentioning Vic Sotto in the Trailer of the Pepsi Paloma Movie, Darryl Yap Speaks Out
DARRYL YAP – The controversial director has addressed the mention of Vic Sotto in the trailer of the movie about Pepsi Paloma.
Yap took to social media to share his connection to the story of Pepsi Paloma, a fellow Olongapeño, whose story has lingered in the public’s mind for years. As a filmmaker, he feels drawn to these stories because they keep resurfacing, unresolved and raw, on social media. To him, it’s more than just a story – it’s a reckoning that he feels compelled to confront, seeking the truth even when it’s uncomfortable, and presenting it in a way that resonates with people.
Regarding the mention of Vic Sotto in the film, Yap questions whether an apology is necessary. He believes the truth does not require an apology, and public figures linked to these stories must accept that they will inevitably come to light. Yap views his role not as one of judgment or controversy, but as someone who tells the story honestly and respectfully, sticking to the facts.
“About Sir Vic Sotto, I’m not sure whether to offer an apology for his name being mentioned in the film. The truth, after all, is unapologetic,” he said.
Yap hopes that viewers will see the film as an attempt to shed light on a controversy that won’t be forgotten. While he expresses deep respect for his fellow artists and the pillars of the industry, he holds the truth close to his heart, making it his top priority in storytelling.
