Ivana Alawi Shares Her Life-Threatening Hospital Experience and Road to Recovery
Ivana Alawi shared her near-death experience in hospital that left her feeling grateful for what she calls her “second life.”
On November 8, 2024 (Friday), Mariam Sayed Sameer Marbella Al-Alawi, known professionally as Ivana Alawi shared a “life-threatening experience” on her official YouTube channel. She described it as one of the most difficult periods of her life.
“Ipapakita ko sa inyo ang isa sa pinakamahirap na journey sa buhay ko…Feeling ko nagpaalam pa nga ako sa mama ko. Feeling ko talaga it’s really my second life,” the actress said.
Alawi began by sharing that she has Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition that can lead to various health complications. This condition, she explained, was the starting point of her recent health crisis.
She decided to go to the hospital when the pain and weakness became unbearable. While admitted, she developed severe fluid buildup in her abdomen, which caused her stomach to swell, making her appear five months pregnant.
During her hospital stay, her condition took a frightening turn as her pulse weakened and she struggled to stay conscious. She recalled how doctors urged her to keep her eyes open, worried about her deteriorating vital signs.
“Nag-panic na yung mga doctors kasi parang humihina na yung pulse ko, they kept saying na, ‘Huwag kang pipikit.’ So, pina-confine ako pero hindi ako gumagaling. Parang ang tigas at hirap na hirap akong huminga,” she added.
Despite being under constant care, her health didn’t improve immediately. The excess fluid in her body caused breathing difficulties and made it hard for her to urinate or digest food.
Finally, the doctors decided to drain nearly two liters of fluid that had accumulated in her abdomen and was pressing against her lungs, making it hard for her to breathe. Once the fluid was removed, she started to feel immediate relief and began to recover.
As she continued to heal, Alawi expressed deep gratitude to everyone who sent prayers and support. Before ending her video, she shared her plan to donate the earnings from this episode to a hospital, aiming to assist patients who struggle with their medical bills.
The online community expressed their reactions to her experience:
